About FSC

The Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) is a non profit organization. It aims to spread awareness about responsible forest management globally. The FSC establishes standards based on the principles of responsible forest management, which are supported by the agreement of those involved in the environment, social, and economic fields. Please refer to www.fsc.org for more details.

Timber certified by FSC is produced from certified forests that meet the FSC responsible forest management standards. The Chain of Custody (CoC) certification certifies the treatment and distribution process of certified timber, which is harvested from a certified forest, until it reaches the consumer.

As a rule, even timber produced from certified forests cannot be sold as an FSC product unless the organizations involved have CoC certification. The timber is the final product, which goes through a long and complicated treatment and distribution process before reaching the consumer. CoC certification confirms that no nonconforming timber is mixed with certified timber during this process. Apart from the retailer, all organizations involved in production, processing, and distribution must acquire certification before the FSC product reaches the consumer.
